Jason Arnopp's
Sunday Confession Booth

A weekly email to boost the motivation and accountability of creative people
THE TL;DR VERSION

Sign up to my new free mailing list and I'll email you every Sunday evening to ask what you created this week, then encourage you to seize the week that lies ahead.

THE FULL STORY

Nobody could care less about whether you finish this project of yours.

This novel of yours, or your script, or your song, or your short film, or your poem.

Nobody gives a tiny rat's ass.

Even though this is untrue, that's how it often feels, right? Like it doesn't matter how much work you get done on this project today, because ultimately no-one may ever know. You might as well take the rest of the day off and come back to it when you feel more motivated.

As a result of these thoughts, your procrastination drags on, and on, and on, until one day you wonder why this project's gone nowhere.

Jason Arnopp's Sunday Confession Booth is a minimalist, lighthearted and above all FREE mailing list that aims to wipe out such feelings of despondency. Every single Sunday, I'm going to ask what you've created this week.

Yes, sign up to this list and each Sunday evening you'll receive an email from me that basically contains only a couple of lines.

The first line will ask what you created this week. Then I'll encourage you to seize the week of work that lies ahead.

And that's it. The words themselves aren't entirely the point. This is all about being asked, partly to help you reflect on your weekly achievements and to plan for the coming week.

If you like, you can reply to my email and literally tell me what you created this week, regardless of whether these seven days have been a triumph or a tragedy. I will read every single email, but may not always be able to reply. My role will be to listen without judgement, just like some kind of literary priest.

During the course of every week, you'll know that Jason Arnopp's Sunday Confession Booth is coming. So whenever you ask yourself why you're bothering with this creative project when no-one cares and no-one even knows you're making it, you'll remember the booth. You'll know that, come Sunday evening, you'll be asked about this project. And then you'll forge ahead with creation.

THE FIRST AND ONLY RULE OF JASON ARNOPP'S SUNDAY CONFESSION BOOTH:

If you're a writer, you must never tell me any specifics about the stories you're working on. No log lines, no character names, no titles, nothing. If you do, you'll put me in an awkward legal situation and I'll regretfully have to remove you from the list. If I'm already working on a similar story to yours, for instance, you'll put me off writing it.

(So what can you tell me? The genre's fine. Tell me you've written five chapters of your paranormal romance story/script. That's fine. But what I mainly want to hear is how many words, chapters, script pages or just good old-fashioned work you've achieved this week. Do you feel proud or pissed off?)

Phew. Right! Now we've got that vital rule out of the way, it's time for you to boost your weekly motivation and sense of accountability by signing up to this mailing list.

The first ever Sunday Confession Booth email was sent on June 16, 2019.

Voluntary Booth support

You can choose to donate to help cover the running of the Booth, including the mailing list costs. There are various methods you can use. NOTE: you do not have to donate in order to become a Booth subscriber or receive the free Booth email every Sunday. This is not a paywall scenario. Why not try the Booth for a while and see how much value you receive from it?

PAYPAL SUBSCRIPTIONS (cancel any time):

Awesome Support: £1.99 per month

Even More Awesome Support: £2.99 per month

Ridiculously Awesome Support: £4.99 per month

I wish PayPal offered pay-what-you-want subs, but no!
